Curriculum

Early Years Foundation Stage (Transition & Reception)

Our Early Years classes provide a creative, safe and nurturing environment that enhances each child’s natural desire to learn. The inspirational atmosphere encourages children to discover, question, predict, research, create, and to investigate possibilities about themselves and their world through play.

We allow children to develop naturally, to build skills in conversation and listening, and to explore topics and pursue ideas. Children gain self-confidence through stimulating experiences that encourage motivation, focus, independence and risk-taking. Each child is supported to work individually and with others in positive cooperation. Our aim for all children is to nurture a love and respect for themselves, others and their environment.

The early learning curriculum embraces all learning areas, including early language skills and emerging literacy. Special learning opportunities include IT, Music and Library time.

Children are encouraged to lead their own learning through in depth experiences where they can explore, imagine and interact with indoor and outdoor environments. The indoor environment is arranged with equipment and activities to stimulate and promote independent and self-directed learning skills within a creative and challenging space. Displays of drawings, conversations and other forms of creative expression are devoted to celebrating each child’s accomplishments. Our outdoor learning space has been designed for the stimulation of young minds and is a place for true adventure. This unique outdoor space uses a variety of natural materials, surfaces and textures.

Our Early Years programmes take full advantage of the resources available throughout the whole school. Sharing facilities enables exciting possibilities for many activities.

Creative curriculum (5-11 years)

Key Stage 1 – Years 1 and 2

Key Stage 2 – Years 3, 4, 5, and 6

The curriculum is carefully structured to cater for the different academic, social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of our pupils. We place strong emphasis on providing an all round education.

We are able to incorporate our unique integrated creative teaching techniques into the National Curriculum framework, to give children a more experience-led, hands-on education, with great emphasis on developing learning and thinking skills and personal, social and emotional skills. The enriched curriculum aims to broaden children’s minds and really enthuse their love of learning. It offers children the opportunity to work in depth, giving them the time they need to reflect, consolidate and record their learning.  Pupils are encouraged to become involved in our full and varied co-curricular programme.

All pupils in Years 1-6 have daily lessons and experiences in literacy and numeracy groups that are designed to ensure that pupils are well grounded in these fundamental skills.

Our curriculum aims to develop our pupils’ ability to be;

  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Risk takers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Caring
  • Open-minded
  • Well behaved
  • Reflective
  • Creative
  • Self disciplined
